Right On! Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

See if you can identify the participants in Tuesday evening's vigil for George Floyd.  Many thanks to José Bacalao and his group of organizers.  Everything went on without a bump and there were several moments that were absolute magic...  Speaking of "bump"  "BumpSetServe" or Paul Roustan took the fabulous photos were running today...  Maybe the biggest shoot he's done with people wearing clothes in ages...  Participant #1:  You got it!  Joey Anderson!

#2 The Professor ripped off the Shepard Fairey Obama red/white and blue poster style (who had ripped off photographer Mannie Garcia) and went for the George Floyd Portrait...

Before we forget the surf today was small but fun.  We found Eric Barton, the Professor and Jetski leaping about in some waist high, low tide smackers.  It was hazy sun and barely 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temperature was 64.0 and the water is slowly climbing back up to 62.1.  Low tide was at 7:58am -0.3' and high tide is at 3:14pm +3.5'.  We have a 3' SSW swell out of 197º and it was 2' to 3' and despite the tide there were some little wavelets...

In #3 we have LoLa, Suzi, and Joey.  Unfortunately, Suzi was not holding up her "Racism is small dick energy!" sign.  José (#4) joins in the black power salute with the assembled group.  We remember when Tommy John and John Carlos raised their fists during the '68 Olympics.  Still a powerful symbol...

#5 Demonstrates that no matter what your slogan, it's better on a surfboard.  At this moment this gentleman was walking by and loudly began thanking the crowd of mostly white people.  At first people were a bit surprised and then applause broke out.  He said something like, "Yes, applaud!  I am so glad to see this in our community and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  I was never sure if I would ever see this."  Then he grabbed this young boy, who we're not sure was even related, and he said:  "This is for him!"  You can imagine the enthusiastic response!  It was very touching...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
The Professor!!
