If I Had A Hammer Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So, around 8am this morning, about the time we decided we should head back to Sapphire, Kawika Ching pulled up and almost immediately was confronted by a relatively demented citizen with a claw hammer and a suitcase (possibly full of other hardware.)  As is his habit, he began recording the proceedings (#1) as the police pulled up in copious numbers following the hammer wielding gentleman.  Caught between the alleged suspect and the constabulary he impulsively yelled that he was Hawaiian and not Mexican and that he had nothing to do with the escaping carpenter.  Thankfully, they paid no attention to Kawika and continued in hot pursuit.  They rounded the corner and the gym class that regularly works out in the parking lot, showed incredible dexterity and speed as they fled the scene and the now gun toting police.  They initially attempted to taze the suspect, but they literally got their wires crossed and lit up a potted palm.  Brandishing his hammer, the police grew weary of his antics and since they already had their guns drawn, they shot the guy.  The good news is that they just wounded him enough to stop him.  The bad news was that his suitcase didn't contain any tools, but was full of methamphetamines, some of which had already been gobbled by the aforementioned scofflaw...  If you follow Kawika on Instagram you have to tune into his color commentary of the whole event...  Better than Channel 5...

Wasn't as cold as this shot (#2) of the Professor after a face-plant on the hood of his car (it's a long story)...  But it was 51.0º and the water wasn't much warmer at 57.9º.  Very gray and hazy with 2 miles visibility and offshore winds at 3.6kts.  Low tide was at 8:07am +2.4' and high tide was at 1:26pm +4.0'.  Hermosa was too low tide so we ran amok at Sapphire which was 3' to 5' with some makeable shoulders...

When the Professor came into the cabin, he saw this Canoes plaque (#3).  He was thinking how nice it would be to be in Hawaii and be surfing Canoes or Flies or Pokaii Bay (#4).  Then he thought, "What the hell, Bruddah Miloe is in Hawaii.  Why don't we just go and visit him and leave this cold business to the skiers and snowboarders!"  So it was like that.  We'll be leaving in the morning for Oahu and with any luck it will be warm and there will be some waves that aren't twenty feet tall!  We'll be back next Wednesday with a full report!
