Full Scale Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Some little snappers this morning (#1) as they cancelled the contest for lack of swell.  Maybe the only problem is that they forgot to look.  That happens...  But the wind was offshore by 2 to 4kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air was bracing at 39.7º (not freezing as Boomfwappa pointed out from Colorado at 24º frigid foaming degrees.)  The water was a relatively warm 57.4º, but cool to the touch.  High tide was early at 4:04am +5.2' and low tide followed at 12:00pm -0.5'.  We have a weak SW swell out of 233º at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' and you needed to play the inside-out game to catch'em early and avoid the sand bars that were walling them up on the inside...

(Actively copying a critical essay from the New Yorker inserting our own art and p.o.v. Based on the extravagant description of a piece of relatively obscure Dadaist art.  We don't know if this is plagiarism, humor or copying.  In all honesty we wish we could write like this without the prompt...  Reminds us of "paraphrasing" material in high school to avoid the annotations.)

(#2)  Horizontal-Vertical-Diagonal Composition.
"The works pliant asymmetrically, structured bars and swatches in beige, white, grey and yellow-orange generate a seemingly effortless, endless majesty.  The execution secretes a bit of fun in the minuscule cigarette butts scattered throughout the off colored gray-brown field: an almost, but mostly imperceptible chess board pattern of alternately sculpted (prophetic of the work of Alex Gray) and natural gray-on-gray mounds and small slashing divots of black outlined in flaming yellow and orange.  This would seem to be a flaw did it not so candidly emphasize the works tactility and in doing so communicate a longing that masquerades as freedom.
(Apologies to Peter Schjeldahl)
