McCall #2 Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Paddling the "Channel", lakeside in Idaho, riding tidal bores in Alaska, the Familia is making the most out of this summer!  Good thing, because the surf at home seems to be in the sucking range.  Like this morning with 9miles visibility under hazy skies.  Winds out of the NW by 3kts, with a smooth sea surface.  The air temperature is 65.0° and the water is 66.9°.  High tide is at 11:40am. +3.8' and low tide will be at 4:00pm +2.5'.  There's a SSW swell out of 196° at 2.0' and that's generating just about enough energy to let Joey Lombardo push some groms into their first waves...  not so much for the rest of us!

So we have some questions for the more intrepid among us:

Aaron:  Can you give us some background on your trip?  Like the name of the river, where it is in Alaska, how you heard about it, how often does the bore happen?  And anything else that might satisfy our curiosity!  You can either send it out to the group or send it to the report and we'll attach it to a subsequent report!  Exciting stuff!

Christian:  Okay, we know where Catalina is and we know where Cabrillo Beach is, but how was it getting from one to the other?  Do people ever go the other way?  Was this something you always wanted to do?  Are you a paddler now?  What about the physical versus the mental preparation or is it better to just go for it?  We all paddle, but this is "Formula One" paddling...

Check out the boring Millsteins! (photo #1)  Must say, this wasn't on our list of bores to ride, but at least you don't have to watch for floating sheep and cattle like on the Amazon...
