Before Saladitas and the Ranch blew up, say 1999, 2000 you could be there with your crew and two other guys in the water.  This is the Ranch and the only thing there was "Restaurant Daysi" and it wasn't always open.  When it was, they had the best "red rice" on the planet.  There's Maria and Daysi with Joe Murphy standing and seated Jim "The Coach" lately "The Deacon" Egnatuk, Jeff "Rip" Neal, The Professor and Tyrone James Maggio.  Mona Neal, did a painting of this pic, but this looks like the original photo.  

Then, there's here and now and it's windy out of the WSW by 5 to 7kts and the sea surface is a little beyond textured, but not choppy.  Partly cloudy at checkout with 10 miles visibility.  It was 61.3ยบ and the water at the buoy was 64.2ยบ.  Hermosa Lifeguards had it posted as 70ยบ on the HQ.  Low tide at 7:54am +0.1' and high tide at 2:53pm +4.3'.  It's a SSW swell out of 205ยบ at 3.0', but it's enough of an angle to leave us with two footers and low tide crashers...

Rumors abound!  Possible Booger Day on Friday to celebrate the 4th of July.  Okay, so start looking for where you stowed the sponge or your mini vehicle and clean it up.  Don't forget fins!Emoji

Lost Boys & Co... W e talked about how much building is going on in China.  There are so many new bridges across the Yangtze that they haven't named them all yet!  There are between 50 and a hundred going up between Yichang and Chongqing alone.  In our first photo, the bridge and road are so new that the road crosses the bridge and then doesn't go anywhere!  We watched them welding the superstructure in #2 and to our amazement we watched a guy put on a belt with eyes on the hips and get hoisted up a couple of hundred feet to near the top of this tower.  No nets, no additional straps, no hat - just flying there with a portable welding rig, sparks flying.  We actually saw guys spot welding stuff without dark glasses!  There are some tough guys up there!  Dude, you like gotta have a hat... A beautiful morning, with a few big clouds bumping along and 20 miles visibility.  Winds started onshore from the crack and they were light at checkout...

Sometimes On Friday/Saturday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co... G reat group at Siblings Burrito Palace this morning! (#1)  Caroline joined us all the way from Atwater to catch a few gray ones. C loudy and 12 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the south by 2 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 58.0 ยบ and the water was 61.5 ยบ .  Low tide was at 8:26am -0.6' and high tide follows at 4:00pm +3.4'.  SSW swell out of 202 ยบ at 2.6' and it was 3' and some sharp little gray grinders... S mall surf doesn't have to mean lousy surf.  Here (#2) we have Sheamus Swift showing what you can do when you put your mind to it.  Sheamus got first place in the longboard division against Mira Costa on Thursday! ✠ "When the surf breaks, we'll fix it" The Professor!!

Another Foggy Friday Surf & Culture Report
