Through Rain, Snow, Sleet & Ice Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

A couple of interesting bikes. (#1a)  The one on the top has a hammock for a seat and radiating webbing on the back wheel to keep your skirts from getting caught.  It also had a kick-ass generator that would light half of Cincinnati.  Articulated mechanical brakes were the precursor to the cable brakes we now use...

Overcast this morning with 14 miles visibility.  Winds were variable starting straight offshore, then from the south and then straight on.  All the while at 3 to 5kts.  The sea surface was a bit tacked.  The air was 63.0º but felt chillier with the wind and the water is 67.3º.  High tide is at 10:13am +3.8' and low tide will be at 2:30pm +2.2'.  It's a SSW swell out of 194º at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' and longboard friendly.  A welcome change from the crashers of late.

(#1b) The bike on the bottom is made for ice racing.  Those 3" rear spikes look like they could perforate the ice and done properly could crisscross and make blocks for your martini.  It's got a great sled steering device and in the spring you can swap out the ice racing gear for regular wheels.  Because they had an abundance of paved roadways, Ohio was popular with the cycling set.  And apparently winter was no problem either...
