Viewer discretion is advised in opening this mornings pics.  Okay, we warned you...  #1 finds the Professor ready to accompany TJ on his trip to the piscina.  You would recognize it as the lap pool.  Turns out you need a bonnet to swim.  TJ was tapping his sparse pate and asking the girl if he needed a cap and she made it quite clear that he wasn't getting wet without one.  In the Professor's case only a couple of things wouldn't fit under the lid - like his ears and eyebrows.  The Portuguese spring descended on his eyebrows and they grew several centimeters in just a couple of weeks - scary...  #2 is an early morning view of the Maggio before the pit crew came in.  When he woke up the Professor's nose was about 3" away from his.  This must've been well on the way to scaring the shit out of him, since he jumped up and ran for the head.  Didn't even say "Good morning!"


Take this report with a grain of salt, a splash of lime and a shot of tequila.  We're in Idaho, what do we know...  Winds out of the ESE this morning at 2.2kts and the sea surface was smooth.The air temp was 69.0° and the water at the buoy is a frigid 52.9° as Torrance Beach reports 57-59.  Low tide in the morning at 5:33am -0.9' and high tide will follow at 12:14pm +3.5'.  The buoy says we have a SSW swell out of 196° at 3.6'.  If this swell were hitting us straight on, we might be getting the full effect, but since there's so much south, we're calling it 1' to 3'.


I'm A Believer Dept.

Don't believe the temps…of course I'm known as one to put away the rubber as early as possible (witness our 3 children before I was 30!) but I wore a spring suit in the line-up on Memorial Day and was able to surf in comfort for 2+ hours…My motto: Springer by Memorial Day, Rasher by July 4th!!!!  Less is more!!!

After we managed to get TJ out of bed, he reinvented himself into the ace traveler that he really is.  We decided to have a bit of lunch at Sagres, near the end of the world and TJ ordered a large beer.  When Patricia brought him his draught he wondered aloud if it was really the large and not the small.  In a nonce she was back with the small cerveca and Tyrone James agreed that he had gotten the large.  A good sport, she spotted him the small...

Lost Boys & Co... P rofessor, This is a shot taken last week at a secret spot that is less than 30 miles away from you guys. Any guesses?  My buddy Dave sent it from Salta Verde Point on the backside of Catalina. Only accessible by boat or if you know someone with the key. Tip: The guy in the pic is the guy with the key! Sea Wolf... S o, apparently if you decide to leave Avalon and head to the backside you might score on a south swell.  For some reason this place looks like there might be some rocks on the inside.  No indications of that other than the boils following the guy with the key... C loudless skies this morning with 20+miles visibility.  Winds were off to 2.2kts and the sea surface had a residual bump that held all day.  The air temperature was 79.3˚ and the water was 66.4˚, apparently affected by the wind and upwelling.  High tide was at 6:55am +3.9' and low tide will be at 11:46am +2.8' for a little less than a foot differential.  There's a SW swell out of

S ancho, on this morning's Sruf Familia thread said it best, "Somber rainy day for Jimmy."  J immy Buffett died Friday, September 1.  He was 76 years old and had recently been struggling with health issues.  A Lost Boy of the first order his music was the sound-track for our lives. B ut he might have said it best: "But there's one particular harbor/ So far yet so near/ Where I see the days as they fade away/ And finally disappear." Not Forest Hills Friday Surf & Culture Report

W ho's behind those Foster-Grants?  Well, we'll bet that he's NEVER worn a pair of F-G's.  Are those Oliver People's?  Cartier's, Garrett Leight's?  We'll say Tom Ford's and he should be their poster boy.  Yep, it's Jetski in the arena at the US Open.  Looking rather trim in his court-side togs, we're waiting for his description of the action... W e continue our assault on some of the smallest waves ever ridden!  We'll have to check the Guinness book, but we think we're on to something.  So it was ten miles visibility under partly cloudy skies and winds were offshore by 5 to 7kts.  The3 air temp was 63.9º and the water was 70.7º at the ever popular #46221 Santa Monica Buoy.  High tide was at 11:01am +5.5' and low tide follows at 4:52pm +0.7'.  It turns out we observed that low tide and even with the afternoon south wind howling around 10kts, Sapphire still looked fairly smooth.  We had a south swell out o
