Lost Boys & Co...

Our first photo was recently discovered in a file labeled "Whatever."  We immediately recognized it as the Portagee Ski Team, training in the Idaho Alps for the Luso-Celtic Games which semi-annually pit Ireland and Portugal against each other in an event chosen by the loser of the previous contest.  Portugal lost in '09 so they got to pick the sport and the location.  They picked skiing and the location was Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Predictably, the Irish lost this year and have selected the steeplechase and Manila, in the Philippines for 2013.  In this photo they are discussing which way to go.  Apparently, "down" wasn't their first choice.  The Professor in red (Port.)  Julia Burke in blue (Ire.) Marco "the Shark" Leao in yellow (Port.) and Anaconda Burke in black (Ire.)

Under overcast June skies we have 9 miles visibility, on this first full day of summer.  Winds were out of the SSE at 2.3kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temperature was 62.3° and the water was a degree warmer at 63.3°.  Low tide was at 8:44am +1.0' and high tide will be at 3:51pm +4.4'.  The buoy is reporting a SSW swell out of 213° at 2.3', but it's not looking that big right now.  Everybody is saying it's supposed to get bigger tomorrow...  okay, we're ready...

Photo #2 is from Randy Ruby on Sunday during the "South Bay Dozen" Jimmy Miller Foundation benefit.  If you're looking for a good charity the Jimmy Miller Foundation works with the "Wounded Warriors" getting wounded veterans into the ocean (many for the first time) and inner city kids who have no ocean experience.  Remember your first wave?  You could be part of that experience with someone!  This is one of the beach marshals pointing Randy to the starting line so he could get some shots of the competitors.  Wait!  That looks an awful lot like the Professor...  What's the penalty for impersonating a beach marshal?

Finally, we have a shot taken undercover in Spain at one of the largest Summer Solstice gatherings in the world.  Lots of witches, warlocks and wizards at this one. If they see you taking pictures they throw either your camera or you into the fire.   A great venue, but they really need some good electric lighting rather than relying on that creosote.  Spectacular, but pretty damned smoky...
