Grab Your Board Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Our first photo this morning features the "Enfante Enrique" who you know better as "Henry the Navigator."  This statue is in Porto and features his own plaza.  He is supposed to be pointing to the "New World" which we know better as "home."  Whenever we wanted to be picked up by the Portagee crew, we'd just say that we were on the corner to which Henry was pointing.  They found us every time.  Our own personal discovery was that he was also pointing toward the beach, where TJ and the Professor biked across some dunes to this snappy little right (photo #2.)  We should note that the Enfante was not prematurely gray, but suffered from a terrible case of the "guivotas" or seagulls.  You could also read his pointing finger as a direction to the perched gull - "Go!~"

Since we're a thousand miles away (Boise, Idaho) all we can do is give you the numbers, like:  Right now the winds are calm and the air temp is 60.5° and the water is 52.3°.  That happens to be colder at the buoy than we had all winter.  Is that right?  The Santa Monica Bay Buoy says it's 58.6° which is a hell of a lot better and the Torrance Beach report says 57° to 59°.  A redux of last summer's cold water would just be depressing.  But we digress...  High tide is at 11:32am +3.5' and low tide will follow at 3:53pm +2.2'.  We have a predominantly south swell out of 186° at 4.6', but the Torrance guards are telling us that it's 2' to 3', so we'll go with that.  If you have a moment let us know what YOU saw...

Our 3rd photo is from our room at the "3 Mares" B & B on the point at Baleal/Peniche.  All we did was sit up and snap this shot.  Look close and you can see the guys in the lineup at the reef.  It took us ten minutes to be in the lineup from our snuggy nest...  Kinda deluxe...
