Thalophytic Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Always a good feeling to warm those frigid toesies at the fireside.  Be certain there is a responsible adult present to make sure you don't get too enthusiastic.  As we sat here, we found ourselves pondering just how Vienna sausages were discovered...

Some light overcast early on with 15 miles visibility, breaking into partly cloudy conditions.  Wind was up from the start, 1.9kts at checkout and the sea surface was lightly chopped.  The air temp was 62.5° and the water at the buoy was 63.9°.  However, the guards at Hermosa posted a 69° and that seemed a bit more realistic.  Low tide at 8:42am +1.8' and high tide will follow at 3:51pm +5.4'.  We have a SSW swell out of 209°, creeping into our window of opportunity.  It's reading 2.6' and we'll call it 1' to 2' and poor.

But it was good enough for Sonny and Ava to do a bit of surfing this morning!  The two sisters joined the McTaggart-Paine Surf Academy® and studied at the knees of the masters.  On her initial ride Sonny scored a long loping left, while Ava managed to conquer the basics of paddling and catching waves on her own.  She had three solid rides and looks like a natural to us!
