Almost Waves Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The water has been unusually clear this winter, mostly because there hasn't been any surf to speak of.  When there are waves, you get these clear lips that are enticing in their transparency...  Not quite sure what that meant, but it sounded good at the time...  (photo credit:  Anthony Renna)

Cloudy, overcast this morning with 10 miles visibility.  Winds were light offshore at 2.9kts and the sea surface had a gentle roll.  The air temperature was 52.3 and the water is 61.2.  High tide was at 9:24am +7.0' and low tide will be at 4:33pm -1.6'.  We have a west swell out of 260º at 2.3' and it was 2' to 3' on a rising tide and not a whole lotta shape...  We need shape!

Here we have a shot (#2) of the new Brother's location on the corner of Longfellow and Manhattan Ave.  It's the site of the former Amigos Tacos.  Ivan is currently managing that location and Oscar has joined him as the main Chef du Cuisine...  Check it out and be impressed...  (Insider note:  At the southwest corner you can check out the surf at the foot of Longfellow!)

When the El Salvadorian Don and the Portuguese Capo meet (#3), you  just know the new year is going to be interesting.  Meeting at the neutral Laurel Tavern, they discussed surfing north of the Hermosa Pier, what the results of the 2018 contests will be, whether or not to annex Catalonia, and the shape of surfboards not yet shaped...

appy hour this week will be at Samba at 5:30pm, down at Mole "D" in King Harbor.  You know how chilly it can be at Mole "D" so dress appropriately.  Tio Ted will be wearing long pants! (As an indication of the severe weather to expect...)
