Another Fearless Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

(photo #1) We can only imagine that the admonition to use caution had to do with the posted 76º water temp, "Watch out you might scald yourself!"  Then of course we had to ask, "Is it temperature hot or spicy hot...?"

This (#2) is the ever popular "Ham Sandwich" pose popularized by Lance Carson in the "Endless Summer."  Arguably, our own Christian Stutzman makes it look even more casual, if that's possible... This was yesterday and 9 out of 10 waves were lined up and closed out.  On wave after wave Christian and MoMo managed to find the corners and exploit them to their advantage...  Fun to watch... Speaking of fun it was medium to good fun out there this morning although the waves were less than cooperative.  It was muggy and overcast with scarcely 6 miles visibility and the wind was already out of the west by 2kts.  The sea surface had a bit of texture, but was closer to oatmeal (lumpy) than velvet.  The air was 71 and the water at the pier was the advertised 76, although the buoy is reading 74.3.  Low tide was 8:21am +1.8' and high tide follows at 3:10pm +5.0'.  We're trying to catch a bit of that SSW swell out of an oblique 192º and it's registering 3.3'.  But it's hitting a bit smaller than that and we'll call it 1' to 2'...

Last night was the benefit fund raiser for the Avery Family and it was heart warming to see the enthusiastic turnout.  There was a raffle and they had some really good swag (#3) including skateboards, gift baskets, jewelry for the ladies, tickets to the Comedy and Magic Club and a couple of cool surfboards from Johnny Mangiagli and E.T.  Despite the gravity of the event, spirits were high and a feeling of hope pervaded the proceedings.  The comics were funny, the magician was mysterious and the headliner was the ever popular Paul Reiser, who as his name implies, rose to the occasion...

Not that you need to be reminded but it's Greenbelt tonight at 5:30.  Why we continue to patronize a place that doesn't serve martinis is a mystery to the Professor, but he has promised to try and be a good sport, albeit petulantly...
