THAT'S Outside Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

A late morning shot of Outside Sappha-rua from Veteran's Park (#1).  As you can see the five surfers inside we're pretty much unprepared for what was unfolding in front of them.  From where we stood when that wave peaked up, it looked like you could have decided to take off right and surf Topaz or go left and surf Sapphire...  At high tide you probably could've gone straight and floated over the rocks...

Checkout this morning emptied the clouds and soaked the checkers.  A quarter mile visibility and winds were erratic from the SW at 10 to 15kts and intensified during the day.  The air temp was 57.3º and the water actually went up a degree to 59.5º.  High tide was at 7:34am +6.0' and low tide followed at 3:00pm -0.8'.  That low tide coupled with the increase in size might have saved some damage to piers and low lying areas.  The swell is from the west / southwest at 8.5' and it was 8' to 12'.

We checked in the afternoon and it had jumped in size to 10' to 15', probably bigger and was breaking so far out you could see outside Hermosa from the Avenues!  We headed down to the Breakwall and got this shot of the Hermosa Pier (#2) with waves breaking twice as far out!  It was spectacular!  If it cleans up for the morning it could be one of those days that will have folks talking for a long time...
