Thoughtful Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

As we all know, Sapphire is famous for it's lefts.  That being said there are a number of right handers that come bouncing through Sapphire bay.  Sting caught One-Nut Mike and Danger Boy a week ago taking advantage of the situation...

Visibility is 10 miles this morning with some fat looking rain clouds lumbering about.  Some sprinkles, but nothing to stop the picnic.  Winds were onshore from the get-go by 5.7kts and the sea surface had a definite tack.  The air temp was 54.3° and the water was 57.9°.  As Joel Gittleson might say, "Jump right in and warm up!"  High tide is at 5:18am +5.2' and low tide will follow at 12:47pm +0.7'.  The buoy is bobbing along on a SSW swell out of 195° at 3.0'.  We're calling it 1' to 2' and waiting for it to pull to the west so we can go surfing.  Maybe mañana...

Murf weighs in:
Dear LBs', Wendys', et al,
Have been preoccupied lately with the most incredible little girl in the world, and the love of my life, Finley Kiana Murphy...  That being said, I would like to offer an observation about the ongoing strife involving Tyrone James and the Melekian dude, whoever he/she is (you never know there days)...  P-()
Seems to me that a more accurate description of both of them would be "Morass and Honey"  verses "Sugar and Spice"  in that both individuals seem sweet however both seem to move their opinions and political positions incredibly slow, especially in winter!!
As one of them points out "Realize it has nothing to do with your experience of surfing, and move on."  Well said, whatever "it" is may simply be a distraction from getting on with your life.  Remember AFAWK there are no "do over's" to this session!
Merry Christmas, Happy Honokaa, Joyful Festivess, Happy Holidays, or whatever else helps you get up in the am and live your day with a spirit of aloha!!
Aloha, Murf

(Do you know how long it took us to figure out "As Far As We Know?"   Ed.)

More Melekian...
Buy surfboards.  Know what's involved in making a board, even if you don't make the board yourself.  Know that it's a product of craftsmanship, a skill that requires precision to a 16th of an inch, a skill that is honed over time.  Appreciate this.  Also appreciate that you likely don't have these skills, and find the best person who does that you can have a relationship with.  Pay full price for your board.  Because it's worth it, and because shapers are surfers who don't get paid enough for what they do.  Bring a six-pack when you pick up the board, discuss it's making.
To be continued...
