Thumping Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We took the first shot this morning while checking it out with Ché and Léonard Treadwell.  Mac had been waiting for the lefts to get a little better organized and took off on this steep, but pretty, smoker.  It was what you might call mid-sized for Topaz.

Even though it was a bit cloudy when we first hit the water, visibility was about 25 miles and skies began to clear fairly quickly.  Winds were offshore by 3.5kts and the sea surface had a bit of roll to it, but was smooth as the swell would allow.  The air temp was 53.4° and the water wasn't too bad at 57.4°.  High tide was at 9:42am +6.4' and low tide will follow at a really low -1.1'.  The buoy was reading a WSW swell out of 251° at 5.9'.  We're calling it 4' to 6' with some howlers coming through at Topaz and some nice lefts at Sapphire.  A bit of the holiday crowdedness, but a good crew and everyone was using their best manners.  We're thinking that, just maybe, they're trying to make a last minute impression on Santa...

Our second shot is of One-Nut Mike beating out this nice little spitter at Sapphire.  We're thinking he's about ready to head back to Hanalei for the next swell!  Oh yeah, if you're thinking you have a great gift idea for him, put away the walnut.  We got him one last year...

We'll try to send out a report tomorrow, but since it's Christmas Eve, we might be a bit busy trying to check off all those last minute tasks.  A couple of good places for stocking stuffers:  Cost Plus or World Market, whatever they're calling it.  A good place for little choco things, small bamboo stakes and jars of artichoke hearts and the like.  Then there's Cookin' Stuff.  They have all manner of kitchen toys that you may or may not figure out how to use.  We bought a "mandolin" two years ago and have never used it, except to play "I can't get no, satisfaction" and make slices of cheese too small to eat.  And finally there's Wood's Hardware.  Nothing like getting your man a pound of 8d nails for his hammering pleasure.  Or washers.  We love it when we get washers...
