Fancy Dancer Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here we have Edric and Rock, getting ready to make their way down to the water.  They were in full regalia, with wetsuits, drysuits, booties, gloves, fins,  faceplates, tanks, regulators, etc.  Every piece of equipment necessary for a safe dive.  They were happy and ready-to-go, but it still looked like a lot of equipment to be lugging around.  Rock assured us that it was no problem and wondered how we got along with those unwieldy surfboards?

Clear beautiful skies this morning with 20 miles visibility and a bit of marine haze.  Winds were out of the NE by 2.3kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temp was a chilly 45.1° and the water was 59.7°.  Low tide was at 6:59am +2.6' and high tide will follow at 12:26pm +4.3'.  Our buoy has a WSW swell out of 255° at 2.3' and we're working every bit out of that with Hermosa up to waist to chest high.  27th St. Manhattan was 2' to 3' and Redondo met Mira Costa on their home surf this morning.  Redondo was leading after two heats and then things began to unravel.  Costa has some great girls who are sponsored by Roxy and Dive 'n Surf and they were on the small waves.  We were good, but not good enough, this time...

Tonight, La Hora Felice (Happy Hour for the linguistically challenged) will be at Samba.  If working, shopping and the Christmas rush are getting to you, swing by around 5:30pm and let Mark from Boston, take care of you.  If you really need to unwind, LoLa and the Professor will be riding bikes.  It's like spinning, but the scenery changes!  What a concept!

At the Hermosa pier the kids were busy sledding on a cold almost-winter's day.  The lack of snow didn't have them hesitating for a moment.  Of course their counterparts back in the north and east might get an occasional "Snow Day" and get off from school.  We can't ever remember getting a "Sand Day" so we could go sledding...    ✠
