Twinkle Toes Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We have an exclusive photo of the boys watching the raising of this ancient statue found off of the Hermosa Pier.  Believed to have been carved in the 3rd century BC by a group of Egyptian artisans who had come aground in Southern California.  This is the first verifiable example of their civilization in California.  The sea floor is scattered with numerous artifacts and now their removal can begin in earnest.  When questioned why this discovery took so long a lifeguard responded "No one ever bothered to look."  It was found when they were taking the morning water temps...

Overcast this morning with ½ a mile visibility.  Winds were onshore from the start, but light at 2.1kts the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 65.1˚ and that matched the water temperature.  High tide was at 10:38am +4.1' and low tide will be at 3:31pm +1.8'.  We have a SSW swell out of 199˚ at 3.6' and it was a fun 3' to 4' with some fun peaks.

Trying out our reportorial style, you might have wondered (a little...  not at all...) about the veracity of the lead story.  The statue was actually found off the coast of Egypt at the location of the sunken city of Thonis-Heracleion.  It has become a major archeological find and some of the artifacts have been wonderfully preserved by the lack of O₂ at the depth at which they are found.  The guys on the pier however, were not found.  They are Lost Boys...  (L. to R.  Jimmy Utah, Rasta Pete, Jetski Vishnevsky, the Professor and Clark the Meth Hunter DDM.  photo credit:  Bobbin' Robin Fenlon, National Geographic)
