Lost Boys & Co...

We got this from Julia Rieger regarding the standing wave in Munich!

Good morning!!

That´s awesome and it´s is seriously so much fun - not the ocean but still a wave :-) So it's definitely best in the spring and summer when the water is higher from the melting snow in the mountains PLUS you don´t freeze your ass off.

Congratulations!!! (re: Suzanne and Joey getting hitched) When does she get married and where. I am sure you will be on the road again pretty soon! Our next travel plans go to Portugal, Lombok and West Australia.

Julia

Sounds like a lot of fun and some great travel plans!

Down at the ocean front in Zadar is the famous "Sea Organ." (#1)  There are pipes placed in the sea wall that make these harmonic tones.  When the surf comes up it can be pretty much a cacophony, but most of the time there are these soothing notes that make a calming background to your walk on the seawall...

Would you believe that it was gray AGAIN this morning?  Of course you would.  7 miles visibility and onshore winds light out of 270º.  The air was a chilly 63.3 and the water was 68.2 at checkout.  Low tide was early at 5:51am -0.3' and high tide follows at 12:25pm +4.0'.  We have a SSW swell out of 202º at 2.3' and that's about what it was.  Better early so don't sleep in too late...

When you thought everything was calm and placid you run into one of the two "Pillars of Shame." (#2) When you acted out during Diocletian's reign they chained you to one of these pillars and your fellow townspeople hurled insults and worse at you.  It was the Roman's answer to stocks and pillories.  Highly effective and one step removed from scourging, what's a little shame between friends...

We were talking about all those little harbors and here's the pocket marina in Zadar (#3).  If you look closely you can see the Venetian Lion of St. Mark on the city gate.  The Venetian's during the height of their empire, pretty controlled owned everything on the Adriatic all the way down to Istanbul...

Plenty of orange to go around in this sunset (#4) and reflection on a jetty in Zadar.  All the places on the western coast of the Adriatic claim to have the prettiest sunsets in the world.  Personally, we thought that Avenue I could stand up to anything we saw on the road...

Unlike Trader Joe's, you can only get cherries during cherry season in this part of the world (#5).  But when they come in, you'd also better be ready to eat nothing but cherries for the month they're in the markets.  We constantly had a bag of the sweetest cherries you can imagine with us the entire trip...  Excellent spitting quality pits...
