Test Tube Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here (#1) we have the Professor, with the watchful eye of Josep Broz over his shoulder, ready to start a meeting of the senior men's socialist cell in Valenje.  This meeting hall was in the castle that overlooks Valenje and was there centuries before socialism and will no doubt be there when the feudal system returns...  Just a matter of time...

Ghastly crumb foggies this morning, with 3 blocks visibility.  Should clear up by noon.  Winds were light out of the west by 3.0kts and the sea surface was smooth enough.  The air temperature was 64.4 and the water is 66.7 at the buoy.  High tide was at 10:44am +3.9' and low tide will count down at 3:21pm +2.3'.  We have a 3.9' SSW swell out of 193º and it was 3' to 4' on the rising tide...

Out in the countryside of Galiciji, LoLa and Tomasz's (#2) oldest son get cuddly with his new litter of pups.  He raises them and over time has done a pretty good business selling them.  He and his brothers are in school, all paid for by the government.  Buck asked if his son Luke could apply to university there.  Much to our surprise, Slovenian universities are open to all who pass the entrance exams!  So, we thought, "Great, you just have to be able to speak Slovenian."  Turns out that most of the courses are taught in English, since they feel that English is pretty much the lingua franca in today's world.  Our advice is to enroll now, before you have to learn Chinese!

The Vespa Club of Ferrara, stayed with us in Postonja, on their way to Points south.  They were followed by two support vans and enough parts to build an entire new Vespa should it come to that.  The Professor points out their logo (#3) which is of course a "vespa" or wasp in Italian.

The Professor and Buck mug for the camera in front of a WWII jeep (#4) that came ashore on D-Day!  Tomasz's brother restored this beauty and he figures there are about 60 pristine jeeps in Europe.  They get together for various events throughout the year and show off their rides.  You might have recognized that the Professor is holding a Thompson Sub-Machine gun (without it's characteristic round magazine.)  We must admit, it was quite a thrill to hold an actual "Tommy Gun."  Buck is wielding a period carbine, to pick off snipers, while the Professor concentrates on spraying the bad guys at close range...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it"
The Professor!!
