Was That A Sandbar Or Do Our Eyes Deceive Us Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Yesterday's "Kickoff Classic" was held in some pretty miserable conditions, certainly not unheard of in the contest realm.  Small, windy and inconsistent the Women's Shortboard Division did a great job of making it look almost good.  Redondo had a great showing placing 2 women in the finals.  10ths of a point separated many of the contestants.  Here's how they fared:

Round 1:
1st: Karis Bruno
1st: Keani Honda-Snow
2nd: Abby Bosse
3rd: Ryan Jurgens
3rd: Umi Morimoto

Quarterfinals:
2nd: Karis Bruno
2nd: Keani Honda-Snow
3rd: Ryan Jurgens
3rd: Abby Bosse

Semifinals:
1st: Karis Bruno
3rd: Keani Honda-Snow

Expecting the worst, we gathered at the water's edge this morning only to be greeted by small, but imminently surfable waves.  (#1.)  Winds were offshore by 1 to 3kts and the sea surface was smooth.  Mostly sunny skies and 10+ miles visibility.  The air was 55.5º and the water is still comfortable at 67.5º.  High tide was at 8:37am +6.4' and low tide followed at 3:05pm -0.2' for a pretty dramatic tidal sweep.  It was a SW swell out of 230º at 2.6' and it was 2' to 3' with some zippers all the way to the sand.  Ronnie racked the wave-count up to the double digits and Larry Dairy is back in town...

Hold good thoughts for mañana!
