Fuzzy Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Another beautiful day in the Southland, marred only by the smoke coming around the corner of the bay from the Montecito fires.  Unfortunately, the smoke does cause some rather spectacular sunsets, as we've included here.  The real news is that we've spent the last few days populating a blog with our own brand of surf & culture.  You can find it at lostboysco.blogspot.com.  It includes everything you read here and incidental posts and photos that we'll be sending in from time to time.  You can also make comments and be as brilliant as you want.

So we have 20 miles visibility, even with the smoke we mentioned.  Winds are calm and looking to stay that way for most of the morning.  The air temp is 62.2f, looking to warm up considerably and the water is 61.9f and considering this is November, it will only go down.  High tide is really high at 9:01am +6.9' and low tide will follow at 4:24pm -1.2'.  If you're looking for some clams, that'll be the time to do it.  The buoy is reading 3.9' and if the tide was a lot lower we'd have some nice waist to shoulder high waves.  As it is, we're floating everything right on to the shore.  We're thinking the best time to make an attempt would be right around noon.  The deciding factor will be the wind.  We caught Sapphire yesterday about 11am and it was peeling in nice little arcs all along the middle.  The rocks kept the wind off and the tide and swell were enough to make it happen.  Our advice:  Pay attention!

Remember to take a look at the blog and let us know if you like it.  If you don't like it, well...

Finally, we'd like to offer our condolences to the friends and relatives of Rene' Burke (no relation to Steve and Marty.)  This Burke family came to Redondo in the early part of the 20th century and was a fixture in old Redondo.  Boomfwappa and the Professor lived in one of their rentals on PCH early in the 60's.  Many of you might know Henry Burke who was the circulation manager for the Daily Breeze for many years.  Rene' was classically trained at seminary, but never became a priest.  In fact we have no idea what he did other than mange the family's rather extensive real estate holdings.  He was a real character and will be remembered fondly.
