Mango Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Still a bit of residual smoke hanging in the air to the west and north.  Our attached photograph shows the Huntington Pier and the view from the beach.  Let's see what's in store for us this morning at the beach.

At 6am we had 15 miles visibility, obscured only by the thick band of smoke we described.  There's also a lot of the usual haze exacerbated by the inversion layers that seem to create a layer cake of moist air, smog and smoke.  Currently the winds are offshore by 1.2kts and the sea surface is pool table glassy.  The air temperature is 64.8f and the water is 61.2f.  High today is supposed to get up to around 82f, which is pretty warm for the middle of November.  We rode bikes last night and it was 75f along the strand as we peddled our asses through the drifts of ash.  Low tide is at 5:19am +2.8' and high tide will be at 11:37am +5.8'.  The buoy is reading 2.3' and the waves are 1' and poor.

It was so poor that the surf contest between Bishop and San Pedro was called for lack of cooperation from the Pacific Ocean.  There's another contest tomorrow and Bishop is part of a tri-meet in which they fling themselves at Peninsula and Narbonne.  We're not hopeful about the possibilities tomorrow, but you never know.  There's talk in the league that all competitions in November should be at the Hermosa Pier.

Blog Comments:

From Don Burt:
Maybe Paver should start a blog!
Ed:  Sounds like a plan to us.  Maybe he could call it "Paver and the Shavers" or "Comments from the Pavements."

From Big Wave Dave:
I can't wait to be a retiree...
Ed:  Quite frankly, it's one of the most underrated experiences we've ever had.

From Mayra Houston:
Great Job on the blog.  Will it be in lieu of the emails?
Ed:  We're still going to send out the e-mails, unless folks tell us they don't want them.  The guys who usually check out the surf
want the stats on the same day, but casual readers might not care all that much.  The way we have it set up now is that the
report goes right to the blog, so it's the same content.  In the future we'll probably put more photos on the blog and maybe
                           include special articles.
