Mt. Fuji Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Watching the sun come over the hill at 190th, bathing the hill in a bit of atmospheric perspective.  Not quite Quattrocento, but you get the picture.  So what do most of the surfistas say when they see this pic?  "Hey, no wind!"

Visibility 12 miles this morning as we gazed north from the lanai on the 11th floor of the Topaz International Trump Tower.  Skies were cloudy, semi-overcast as the weatherman tries to decide what's going on.  Winds were calm, just like the pic and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temp was 49.5° and the water was chillier than the 55.9° suggested.  High tide was at 10:15am +5.3' and low tide follows at 5:15pm -0.1'.  The buoy is reading a WSW swell out of 247° at 2.6'.  While missing the avenues and Topaz completely it was hitting Hermosa at 3' to 4' and it got worse as the tide got higher.  Sandy (Queen of Sapphire) and the Professor caught a few, but they were walled and the backwash was bumping it out.

Sometimes, school is in is a good thing.  Like, when first period is surfing class at Hermosa Beach Pier.  Two of the best prep noseriders around: l. David Filman, r. Ben Fortun.  They normally rip Topaz and Sapphire, but class is at the pier.  Not so oddly enough, they have never missed a class.  Even more impressive is that they've never been tardy!  For extra credit you can buy the Coach a TCA at Brother's!

LoLa chided the Professor for running a "funny" shot of Lilly Anne in the report.  We didn't think it was funny, but we also don't get a lot of funny stuff.  Photo 3 is a "cute" pic.

Finally, there is some loose talk about hitting Samba's for an Happy Hour.  If you're in the mood we'll be cruisin' by around 6pm.  Beyond the bar, on the edge of the continent...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
 The Professor!!
