Technetium Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Technetium is a metallic element obtained by bombarding molybdenum with deuterons or neutrons (you pick) in the fission of uranium.  We found some at the beach this morning...

Next time these guys come around, you have to make sure to catchy their act!  Photo, one is Manny LaGod and Ron DePalma.  Manny played bass with Don Ho and the Ali'is and sang backup vocals.  A couple of the songs that Don Ho had big hits with, were originally written for Manny!  Photo two features Ben Chong and Byron Yasui, also members of the Ali'is.  Benny has played continually for 50 years and Byron is back on the circuit after teaching at the U of H for 35 years!  Byron is playing the uke flamenco style in this shot, while Benny watches in admiration.  Byron actually directed the Honolulu Symphony in works for the ukelele!

Clear skies and 20 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 5.1kts and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temperature was 49.1˚ and the water was 55.9˚, with the weekends wind really knocking things down a few degrees.  High tide is at 10:13am +5.3' and low tide will be at 4:37pm -0.2'.  The buoy is catching a west swell out of 271˚ at 3.0' and we're calling it 1' to 4' at Manhattan Pier...
