Age & Cunning Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Our first photo is the young, enthusiastic, beer drinking cohort of the Cardon adventure.  We have absolutely no idea why they were in the hot tub considering the ocean was 88˚, the pool was 90+˚ and the hot tub was "soup."  From left to right:  Jeff, Josh, Angele (with Jeff, known collectively as "the Kardashians"), PW, Wheatley, Andrew and Sammy.  (Photo credit:  Phil Oglesby for La Opinion)

You could'a fooled us, but it looked like summer this morning.  That is until you hit the 63.1˚ water and remembered where you were.  20 miles visibility under clear skies and a light south wind at 3kts.  A slight bump on the water, but relatively smooth.  The air temp was 64.3˚ and high tide was at 6:57am +3.4'.  Low tide was also in the am at 10:53am +3.0', so things were a bit bunched.  We have a SSW swell out of 202˚ at 3.0'.  There were some fun ones at the Hermosa Pier, if you were patient and a couple even if you weren't...

Our second photo is the older, Crown Royal sipping, cunning contingent of the trip.  They would lure the unsuspecting youngsters into drinking games (at which they would cheat), bought them cheap beers and at one point encouraged them to take a trip to Mazatlan to sample the local culture.  This trek was characterized by the following description:  Restaurants = Bars, Bars = Strip Joints, Strip Joints = ? (All the kids went.  Dinner was fine, the Kardashian's had a meltdown at the second bar and threw chairs at the third and no one could remember what happened to Josh at the strip club.)  The next day all seven of the old guys made the call at dawn.  No youngsters until 10:30... (from L to R the old crew:  The Professor, Bobby Warchola, Ken, Rolf and Phil Starr.  Not pictured:  Bob Teer, Danger Boy and José (who was an honorary "old guy".  Photo:  Phil Oglesby for Paris Matche)
