Go Ahead & Flaunt It Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

You have to look closely at this pic of the south side of the Hermosa Pier.  What looks like a huge bait ball of fish is actually about 200 swimmers!  They are just starting their swim to the Manhattan Pier.  You can see a few of their paddlers waiting to lead them in the most direct route...

Cloudy this morning and about 7 miles visibility as we hit the water in Hermosa.  Winds were variable from the SW to the SE at about 5kts and the sea surface sported a bit of a bump.  The air temp was 61.8˚ and the water was 65.1˚.  Low tide was early at 5:18am +0.3' and high tide followed at 11:41am +4.7'.  We had a SSW swell out of 202˚ at 2.6' and there was a window from about 8am to 10am that had some good waves from 1' to 3'.  We saw Brittany Bardon and Anna Barclay getting some nice waves.  Brittany was on a Stewart Colin Phillips model with super thin rails and a step deck nose.  Also rockin' the step deck was Ethan Pezzolo as he proceeded to shred the inside, outside and all points in between.  He's really starting to develop his own longboard style.  Apparently hanging with the Professor hasn't set him back too badly.  We also saw Kris Hall longboarding it.  He'll be a junior in the fall and he could be a fine competitor.  We heard he recently scored a fourth place in the International Surf Festival Surf Contest!  Good on him!

Samba tonight for your end-of-the-week happy hour consideration.  Food, drink and feathers...  6:15 or thereabouts...
