A Rather Mercurial Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Bob Souther's passing this last weekend.  He fought a courageous battle over the years with several types of cancer, including a particularly pernicious skin type that caused him to remove chunks from time to time.  Blue water sailor, champ surfer and founding member of the Haggerty's Surf Club.  He was also one of the original Greg Noll Surf Team members (along with brother Don.)  He lived in both California and Hawaii, worked for the airlines and was chief maintenance officer for UCLA.  A kinder more generous human being you couldn't find if you tried.  He was a stalwart member of the Monday night group at Louie Louey's/Moon's/Corner Pub and it's hard to imagine him not being there...  Well, maybe he is...
Our sincere sympathies to Don and Bob's family.

A few clouds early this morning with 20+ miles visibility.  The hawk was offshore by 10.1kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature has warmed considerably from the low 40's to 55.2˚ this morning and the water is 60.6˚.  High tide is at 8:39am +6.1' and low tide (as shown) is at 3:45pm -0.8'.  We have a weak west swell out of 271˚ at 2.0' and it's 1' on the beach, BUT - it's supposed to be getting better throughout the week.

The tide was low enough to show off a couple of sand bars and channels.  So if you didn't know before, now you know where to paddle out...  Oh, yeah...  there's the outfall as well...
