Why Is It Thames And Not "Tems" Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

In the "Bahia de los Cochinos" the clarity and color of the water was fabulous.  Some of the best snorkeling we had ever experienced.  Someone had cut out this narrow entry way out to the reefs, but you could just jump in and see one of the most breath taking seascapes you can imagine.  The most impressive thing was that all of the coral was still alive!  It hasn't been poisoned by the runoff from factories, walked on by eager tourists or dynamited out of existence for a harbor.  We managed to sneak up on this mermaid sunning herself.

A brilliant day in the Southland today with 15 miles visibility under hazy skies.  Winds were calm to offshore and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 54.9º and the water was trying at 64.4º.  Low tide was at 9:37am +2.6' and high tide will follow at 3:03pm +4.2'.  More than fun surf, with a 2.6' west 271º swell that bumped to 3' and some longboard friendly waves...

Photo #3 is a bunker on the shore of the Bay of Pigs.  Apparently the CIA and Cuban Nationals couldn't keep a secret and the supporters of the revolution built these to repel the invaders.  We saw quite a few.  Looked like they might hold two sharpshooters or three fat chicks trying to steam off some cellulite...
