Wig-Wag Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We have it on good authority that Happy Hour this Friday will be at "A Basq Kitchen" at the usual time of 5:30pm.  You can find it on the International Boardwalk somewhere between Naja's and Quality Seafood.  They have interesting selections for Happy Hour and it lasts until 7pm.  Should be a nice warm-up to Thanksgiving without those annoying family...

Speaking of Happy Hour, this one in Havana Vieja was pretty deluxe.  Our host Jorgé converted his living room into a restaurant and the food was quite good.  Could've been a tad spicier, but they were on the right track.  At 8:55pm he lead us all up on the roof and we heard the "Cañonado" from across the harbor channel and the El Morro at 9pm "en punto."  By the time we were through with dinner Mike had purchased two boxes of Cohibas, duly recorded and notarized and we could barely move from the dessert.  We thought that in communist countries people ate millet and canned peas.  Apparently Cuba didn't get the memo...

Sunny and clear this morning with 20+ miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 3.7kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was a chilly 57.3º and the water has cooled down to 62.8º.  Low tide was at 7:53am +3.0' and high tide was at 1:27pm +4.5'.  Not too much in the way of tidal fluctuations.  The buoy was reading a west swell out of 260º at 3.0' and it was 3' to 4' with some nice waves.  Mike was something like 10 for 10 this morning, including a right that was in contention for wave of the day...  Might be a tad smaller tomorrow, but check it out!

Breakfasts were always included but weren't particularly spectacular.  Still, the eggs, breakfast meats and bread seemed to fill everyone up.  Depending where we were, we got coffee or espresso and juice and LoLa managed to score some good teas...

We expected the usual fare, but we didn't expect to be invited to one of our hosts birthday parties!  Wilfredo, insisted that we join him and his family for his birthday celebration.  The cake was this incredibly ornate frosted mound and had indecipherable writing on the top.  It didn't say "Feliz Cumpleaños" or "Wilfredo" or "Happy Birthday."  It looked like the baker had seen writing before, but didn't know how to actually do it himself...
