Double Forged Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

In a country that is absolutely nuts about their guns, we've come to the conclusion that we might just have to join ranks with the armed citizenry.  Look, there have been pea shooters for ages, salad shooters for those armed vegans and potato guns for all those young spuds looking to put out someone's eye.  So, we decided that the only reasonable thing to do was adapt the arsenal to fit the environment.  In our case that would be a SuperSoaker®, a muscly version of the squirt gun (which, by the way has it's place in close hand-to-hand exchanges) that can shoot up to 30' depending on how strong you are and prevailing winds.  In photo #1 the Professor takes a shot at JP on the pier, soaking his Nikes and chasing away a fisherman.  In photo #2, he blasts Morgan Sliff when she tried to sneak up on him from behind...  No one took off in front of him all morning long...

Surf was starting to rise as dawn broke this morning.  10 miles visibility and partly cloudy skies.  Winds were softly offshore by 2.9kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temp was 48.9º and the water was 60.1º.  Low tide was at 6:29am +2.0' and high tide followed at 11:59am 3.7' for a relatively small tidal difference.  We have a building 5.6' swell out of 268º WSW and it was 5' to 8' in the surfline.  The shallow sand bars made it extremely challenging and it was the first time in memory that the surf team was sent out and then called in because of the conditions...  Better safe...

A couple of peaks this morning near the Breakwall (photo #3).  These look pretty good, but the paddle to get out there was daunting to say the least...

Mermaid tonight at 5:30pm.  Wear your warmies for the patio...

Finally, this set rolled through about three-quarters of the way through class this morning.  The guy going over the wave on the left is on a long board (over 9') and it looks like you could fit two or three of them on this face.  It was probably double-o, but if you were scratching to make it over it probably looked bigger...
