Mouthbreather Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Friday night was the kickoff Happy Hour of the year and it morphed into a birthday celebration for Ivan, who's birthday is the 31st, but really needs a couple of days to celebrate it correctly.  There is no truth to the rumor that the cake set the Tiki Bar on fire and it burned to the ground.  It was merely a hole in the roof and that was easily patched with some spare palm fronds...  Once there was a hole, the smoke went right out...  (photo credit:  René Evette, "Burning The Candle At Both Ends Quarterly"

Who let the dogs out?  Lilly Panda Cheeseburger (🌾🐼🍔) decided she wanted a "puppy" themed birthday party.  Honestly, the costumes beat the hell out of the "Princesses" party...

This morning everyone was scanning the horizontal looking for some precipitation, but so far nada.  12miles visibility and cloudy skies.  Winds were offshore by 10.1kts and the sea surface was smooth.  The air temperature was a relatively warm 55.6º (better than those 44º morning we've been having) and the water is 59.5º.  High tide was at 5:13am +4.9' and low tide will be at 12:25pm +0.9'.  We have a west swell out of 265º at 4.6' and it appears to be increasing hourly.  By 8am there were 6' faces and some barrel racers...  Supposed to keep building through Thursday!

Over the last 40 years, or at least ever since soft-tops came into vogue, Boomerang Dan has been showing us the possibilities.  A couple of years ago he contracted prostate cancer and he lost his battle with that disease on Saturday.  He and his daughter Katie were regulars in the lineup at both Topaz and Sapphire and you could depend on him to show up anytime there was a decent bump.  AND he ripped!  Here's a few shots of him in action, courtesy of Billy McIntosh...
