Yet Another Martin Luther King Monday Surf & Culture Report

 Lost Boys & Co...

Every once in while, one of these beauties comes rolling through.  Maybe that's why we're out there so often?  Just trying to get lucky.   It's been a good season to be lucky...  (photo credit: Gidget for "Goofy Foot Quarterly")

Overcast, cloudy and barely 3 miles visibility.  Winds were onshore, by 5.6kts knocking down the surf and riling up the surface (in a bad way...)  The air temperature was 55.6 and the water is 60.8.  Low tide was late at 11:35am +0.4' and high tide will be at 5:44pm +3.3'.  We're gearing up for some big tidal swings with highs in the am and minus tides in the pm.  We have a west swell out of 264 at 5.2' and it was 4' to 5' at most spots, but bumpy and not so deluxe...  Maybe mañana...

Lucky?  How about Trevor LaShure at Burnout last week.  This is one of those moments when everything you've been practicing comes into play.  You can be as prepared as you want, but you still have to have some "huevos grandes" to tackle one of these...  (Randy Ruby photos)

Finally, Glenn Frey of the Eagles passed away yesterday.  For those of us from California and of a certain age, Glenn Frey was bigger than Bowie or Lemmie.  His music was/is the soundtrack to our lives.  Hotel California, Peaceful Easy Feeling and Tequila Sunrise with the sun sliding up over the San Gabriels as you're driving south on surfari.  All great, but personally we hope he gets to Party Town...

Sick of my job, sick of my wife
Sick of my future, sick of my life
Packed up my car and I got some gas
I told everybody they could kiss my ass
    I'm going to party town...
