Lost Boys & Co...

Surfing the North Carolina Outer Banks has it's own litany of difficulties, including wind (up to hurricane force,) rain, fog, tides, shoals and erratic swell patterns.  A good place to view all of this was the Avalon Pier (photos 1 & 2), in Kill Devil Hill.  Yes, the same place the Wright Brothers first flew their airplane!  Absolutely one of the most decrepit piers we had ever encountered, they charge you $2 just to walk out and sight-see.  We suggested that they start charging $4 and fix up some of the pilings...

Hazy sun with 15 miles visibility.  Winds are calm and the sea surface is likewise.  The air temperature was 60.9 and the water is 68.9.  High tide was at 8:04am +5.4' and low tide will be at 2:02pm +1.1'.  We have a SSW swell out of 200º at 2.0' and it was 1' and poor at most spots...
