The High Life Again Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

The iconic Cape Hatteras light house (#'s 1 & 2)  Rather stately at about 200' you can see it for miles around.  In 1999 it was moved from it's original location to a spot further from the encroaching sea.  When it was built in 1870 it was 1500' from the water.  By the time it was moved the structure would be surrounded by water during stormy conditions.  It's not as easy to move a building like that made out of brick and that tall.  It took almost 4400 skateboards on a makeshift board walk to slide it to it's current position.  (We might have embellished that part...)

Cloudy this morning with almost 5 miles visibility.  Winds were light out of the SW, but it still had a bit of bump from yesterday's winds.  The air temp was 58.7 and the water is 67.5.  High tide was at 9:29am +5.9' and low tide will follow at 3:56pm +0.2'.  We have a SSW swell out of 200º at 4.9', but it got scrubbed a bit by being so far south that it was only 3' to 4'.  Looks like some storm activity up in the northwest, so stay tuned for bigger waves and sunnier days over the weekend...

LoLa on the beach near Cape Hatteras, after visiting the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" museum.  There are over 500 documented wrecks off the coast of the Outer Banks!

Friday Samba 5:30 (minimalism at it's best)
