Molokai Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Just in case you were thinking that Miloe couldn't get his butt down a mountain of water, here (#1) he is on his Aipa Sting setting the record straight...  Riding was actually easier than the paddle out!

A SSW swell out of 196º at 2.6' and it was a fun 2' to almost 3' south of the pier on that little sand bar that looks right down 11th St...

Here's (#2) a look from White Plains Park on the south west side of Oahu looking back at town.  Straight out from the middle of the photo is where Miloe and the Professor set up shop.  Started out overhead and then some and got progressively smaller as the week went on.  It finally ended up around 3' to 4', but was still fun.

Took a ride out to Barber's Point (#3).  Another two or three miles west of White Plains, there was no one there and the waves were just as good, but the paddle is around a Saliditas and can be a test of your endurance.  Miloe's plan was to get a boat, motor out beyond the surfline, anchor and then enjoy good empty waves.  Everything was perfect except the boat - didn't get the boat...

Part of our trip was the exploration of Molokai.  Most of the lepers are gone, but the compound remains off limits due to Covid and it's restrictions.  The trail which leads down to the colony was washed out in the last big hurricane/rainstorm and it hasn't been repaired.  So if you have notions about riding a mule on Molokai, you can put those aside and not astride.  Now if you look closely at exhibit/photo #4, you will see that there are several guys surfing on the peak in the lower middle of the photo.  You can fly or boat in, but you have to have a sponsor to spend any time at all in the colony.  Could use that boat again Miloe...
