Off The Loading Dock Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Yes, that's what you think it is (#1).  It's an advisory to keep out of the water because of high bacteria count.  There were only three signs.  One south of the pier by 100' another 50' from the pier and a third 50' on the north side of the pier.  We're thinking that they only analyzed the water last week after the rain and they just got the results back.  Of course we've been in it continuously since it rained...  Like yesterday when we ran heats (#2).  The men's longboard heat had some of the best surfing we've seen all semester!  But it wasn't that accommodating when the crew hit the water and it was loading dock jumps as the tide went down.  Burnsy, Capitain Donaldo, the Professor, Brock and a couple of random folk all got worked in the slabbing conditions.

Beautiful weather this morning with 20 miles visibility and offshore winds from 1 to 3kts.  The sea surface was smooth.  The air and water were both 65.3º and the day warmed quickly to the high 70's.  High tide was at 7:46am +4.6' and low tide followed at 1:13pm +2.3'.  It's a 2.3' swell out of the SW 234º and turned into 1' ankle snappers all along the Hermosa...

One year ago today we were scouting the surf possibilities in Cefalu', Sicily.  Maybe you can tell from this serene beach scene (#3) that all we discovered was that we were on the wrong side of the island for surf...  Air 78º, water 65º, surf 6"...
