Fouetté Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

A splendid morning here in the Southland... This news just came to us this morning: IMPORTANT! STING GINTHER HAS SHED HIS BOOTIES FOR THE SPRING/SUMMER. HE HAS NO INTENTION OF PUTTING THEM ON AGAIN UNTIL OCTOBER AT THE EARLIEST. THAT IS ALL.

Now he's still wearing the PolarTech™, but it's only a matter of time before he gets down to raw rubber. You'll hear it here first, when he does! Semi-seriously, he got some great waves this morning at Topaz, where he and the Professor hung with some of the local thrashers. Corey, the polisher from Mangialli was out on the Elia, wooden plank and was getting some pretty great rides. We'll have to get some pics of one of these things - you'll be interested and you might want to make one!

Looking good this morning with 10 miles visibility, under hazy but bluish skies.. Winds were offshore by 7.8kts and the sea surface was smooth, polished by those offshores that blew all night. The air temp is 60.8° and the water is a temperate 63.5°. Low tide was at 8:57am +0.5' and high tide will follow at 4:43pm +3.4', so not too much tidal variation going on today. The buoy is reading a west swell out of 254° at 3.0' and we're calling it a waist to ear high 3' to 4'. Maybe some bigger outsides!

We've kinda gone on about Buck's new blade, but we had to include one of his more stellar innovations. Here we have a photograph of his super-secret tailblock. It has these cool projections on the side that allow you to wrap your toes around them and really put some extra English into those turns! If it were on the nose it would be a "hammer head," but since it's on the tail, it's a "hammer ass." Next time just ask for a "hammer ass" tailblock at your local surf board dealer. You'll be glad you did!

This week we're welcoming Duncan Avery to the list! Duncan is the Redondo High Boy's Volleyball coach and has one of the premier teams on the coast. That's pretty good considering you've got that pesky Mira Costa team down the street. He's also a great surfer and waterman. Say hello when you see him in the water.

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
The Professor!!
