Halfway Finished Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We started yesterday off with a pic of Andrew and Jose discussing the approach to shaping the new blade.  Here we have the finished product (with a smiling José holding on,) ready for Birdie to do his magic.  But wait... Davey is going to do some rising sun imagery with the Barahona eagle coming out of the sun!  Let's see if we can get some shots of the artwork for next week...

Right on schedule the sun came bounding out on to the firmament at 6:26am.  20 miles visibility, under partly cloudy, mostly sunny, skies.  Winds were disappointing out of the west at 11.4kts and the sea surface had a heavy tack to chop first thing.  The air temp was 54.1° and the water has reached the spring milestone of 60.1°.  If it doesn't get any colder for the next seven months, we'll be way happy.  Low tide started out the morning at 5:15am -0.5' and high tide will follow at 11:36am +3.5'.  The buoy is reading a bumpy 3.3' swell out of 210° SSW and we're calling it a mushy, wind blown 3'.

In the back of the Cozy Cafe, we ran into this group of locals contemplating breaky.  Looks like Mexico Mike Murphy, Tandis Morgan and Phil.  MMM was holding court and we were privileged to scarf a screwball scramble with the group.  He's getting things ready for his June fling (which we'll fill you in on as soon as we have more details.)  Tandis is a bathing suit mogul and makes suits (bikinis) for all the local hotties.  We asked her how she got the name Tandis and she explained:  "After I was born my dad held me and said, "Look how TAN DIS one is!""  We thought it was as good a way to name a baby as any...

Everybody will be going to Hermosa tonight and tomorrow for all the Surf Festival shenanigans.  Movies and displays at Pier Avenue Junior High (Community Center?) starting around 6pm tonight and Prep Finals for the South Bay Surf League and Induction Ceremony for Tiger Makin on the Hermosa Pier starting Saturday morning at 7:30am.  See you there!!

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
