Lost Boys & Co...

The South Bay Surf League held it's league finals on Saturday, April 17.  We snagged a few photos of the awards ceremony.  First, we have Karly Goins, Bishop Montgomery's top female surfer.  She surfed through three heats of fierce competition and placed sixth in the finals.  She was bummed, but we think it's pretty good after you surf against over 60 women during the course of the season and then make the finals in league!  Our second shot is of Dayton Silva, who finished first - in everything.  First in Bodyboard, first in Longboard and first in Shortboard.  In our recollection that's the first time that's happened in this league.  Watching him in the short board finals, it looked like he had jets attached to his board.  Everyone else looked like they were surfing in slo-mo.  Finally, the guy who makes the whole thing work, John Joseph.  JJ, selflessly throws himself into putting on these contests and doesn't get half the credit he deserves.  This year he did it all with a freshly replaced knee and a displaced shoulder.  That didn't slow him down and he told us that he has a new board ordered and he'll be in the water soon!

Wind was up first thing this morning, on by 3.9kts, creating tacking blown out conditions.  Visibility was 15 miles, under partly cloudy skies.  The air temperature was 57.0° and the water was 60.6°.  Low tide was at 8:00am -0.1' and high tide will be at 3:20pm +3.0'.  The buoy was ready a weak 3.0' swell out of the SSW at 200°.  Too much south for us and it only pushed about 1', with the wind beating it down.  They're still calling for rain tomorrow afternoon, so we'll have to wait and see what it looks like in the morning.

Be sure to check in tomorrow, we'll be running a few photos from the first annual Becker Vs Brother's soccer match.  We usually hate to call anything the "first annual" but we're pretty sure they'll have to repeat this one...
