Tenterhook Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

T
enterhook.  We always thought it was tender-hook.  Like you'd feel really tender if you were on the hooks.  We even imagine we've seen tenderhooks written.  Not to be confused with tender looks...

You know how you live in a place and you never see the main attractions?  Maybe you see the Hollywood sign from across the bay, just after it rains or Grauman's Chinese Theater (YES!  You and Johnny Depp have the same size feet!)  How about the Staples Center with the LA Kings beating Calgary in a shoot out?  Of course there has to be lasers - it's LA for freakin' sakes...

Clouds this morning, breaking up through the day.  20 miles visibility and a bit of haze over the basin.  Winds 1.1kts out of the north, with a slight bump on the water.  The air temperature was a chilly 48.3° and the water is 56.7°.  We'd like to think it's going to get warmer, but we'd never say that out loud...  High tide is at 7:00am +4.6' and low tide will be at 1:42pm +0.0'.  #46221 is telling us that we have a west swell out of 267° at 3.9'.  Hermosa was slapping things around at 4' to 6', with some corners if you were at the right place.  Topaz was in the 3' to 5' range and Sapphire was trying to break through the tide, but it was a long wait for meager pickings.  The swell appears to be holding, so let's see if we can't get a couple more days of waves...

M
ary Clancy goes up to Father O' Grady after his Sunday

Morning service, and she's in tears.  He says,  " So what's bothering you, Mary my dear?"  She says, "Oh, Father, I've got terrible news . My

Husband passed away last night."  The priest says, "Oh, Mary, that's terrible. Tell me, Mary,

Did he have any last requests?"  She says, "That he did, Father."  The priest says, "What did he ask, Mary? "  She says, He said, 'Please Mary, put down that damn gun...'

We might know this guy...
"The last guy I went out with, he was just so - I don't know - hopeless.  He said if I broke up with him that he would kill himself.  And I broke up with him, but he's not dead yet.  I want to call him up and be like, "You know, what's the deal?  I thought we had an agreement."
Margaret Cho

The service for Fr. Lenihan was this morning.  A tip of the hat to all of the Lost Boys in attendance.  No, he wasn't a Lost Boy.  He understood us though.  We were probably the object of more than a few of his prayers over the years.  So remember his favorite blessing:

May you always have work

for your hands to do.
May your pockets always hold
a coin or two.
May the sun shine bright
on your window pane.
May the rainbow be certain
to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend
always be near you.
And may God fill your heart
with gladness to cheer you.

Have a wonderful week!
