Therapeutic Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Hit some small Sapphire with José, Wheatley and Corey this morning.  Nursing a minor hangover from last night's wake for Msgr. Lenihan it was just what we needed to clear out the cobwebs.  Joe Houston's heartwarming rendition of "Danny Boy" was a welcome reprieve from the liturgically correct version that we heard at the funeral.  How can you jack a melody like Danny Boy that has post-Vatican, pre-liturgical roots, add your own English lyrics, which are arguably not as sincere, traditional or heartfelt and then say Danny Boy isn't allowed?  What is that?

Mostly sunny this morning and even though we proclaimed it "too late for an early spring," it appears that it's better right on time, rather than late.  We'll take it no matter what.  20 miles visibility, with some heavy marine haze out to the horizon and a layer of cappuccino smog on top of that.  Winds were basically calm and the sea surface was smooth to glassy.  The air temp was a moderate 55.5° and the water was 57.9°.  We checked it before we sent out the report at 4pm and it had risen to 61.3°!  If it could stay up there, that would be deluxe!  High tide was at 8:23am +4.7' and low tide will follow at 2:38pm +0.3'.  We have a WSW swell out of 237° at 3.6'.  We're calling it a steady 3' with the swell rising throughout the day and it should be strong on Friday and through the weekend.  Check it out!

Roosterfish, Eagle, Idaho.  We'll be up at Brundage this weekend and the report will be sporadic and possibly unintelligible.  One last ski trip before things start to melt.  Of course they have a ton of snow and plan to be open into May.  Considering they are still having snow and sub-freezing temps, May is a conservative bet.  We're now hoping that we'll be able to do some mountain bike riding in June or July, without snow tires!  It's all downhill from there...
