A Fabled Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Some days you're out there just bobbing around like a cork.  Here it appears that the Professor has no means of support other than his ebullient spirit and Clemenceau-like buoyancy.  Carry on...

Sorry for the lateness of the report, but somehow events seemed to overtake us.  At checkout this morning Danger Boy and the Professor insisted on providing all of the data.  5 miles visibility, under leaden, overcast skies.  Don't forget leaden.  Winds were out of the north by 2.3kts and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temp was 59.3° and the water was above 60° for the second day in a row at 61.9°.  Low tide is at 6:13am -0.4' and high tide will follow at 12:58pm +3.2'.  The 46221 buoy which remains out of our sight, but never far from our hearts, reported a SSW swell out of 193° at 2.3'.  This, though not a gross exaggeration, seemed to be a bit generous.  They watched a young lady on an SUP do a pretty good job of riding some of the little ones, but it looked like fin dragging for most of the rest of us.  2' today and we're hoping for a bit of a lift tomorrow...

You know how people say, "He's forgotten more about _______ than I ever knew."  If you install sailing in the blank, Donnie Souther, is that guy.  Surfer, Porsche mechanic, adventurer, domino champ and sailor, he held the group entranced this morning at Brother's describing the intricacies of competitive sailing.  YES, there is a reason they go back and forth like that...

The following are called Paraprosdokians.  A paraprosdokian is a figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part. It is frequently used for humorous or dramatic effect, sometimes producing an anticlimax.  Sandy (QoS) sent us some good ones...
1. Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
2. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.
3. The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on the list.
4. If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong.
5. We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

Finally, photo #2 is a shot of the reflections off the inside of the "Horseshoe" on the Monstadt Pier.  We've been under it, over it and here it is at night...

"When the surf breaks, we'll fix it..."
