Tensile Strength Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Rainy this morning as we snapped this shot of the jetty.  Gray and oddly serene...

So visibility was all of about ½ mile as we tried to make out the breakwall from the 11th floor of the Topaz International Trump Tower Suites.  (Can you imagine if the landlord had continued running for president?  The rents would have gone crazy...)  Cloudy, with fits of rain and occasional sky blue breaks.  Winds are offshore at a brisk 9.5kts and the sea surface is appropriately blown down smooth.  The air temperature is 53.3° and the water refuses to understand what May means, hanging at 55.9°.  Who knows what it'll make outta June?  High tide is at 10:28am +4.1' and low tide will be at 3:22pm +1.5'.  The 46221 buoy is saying that we have a WSW swell out of 257° true at 3.0'.  We're amending that to 2' to 3' with a high tide stressed playing field.  As long as the wind holds offshore, when the tide starts dropping there could be some waves.  If the wind switches, that'll be all she wrote...  Calling for some rain tomorrow, but the swell might have a little more authority.  We'll be checking...

A couple more interesting sea creatures from the Japanese tsunami.  A lot of stuff has pushed those people off the front page (including bin-laden, Tornados in the US and this morning the ex-governor as "Impreganator,) but you know they still have to be hurting.  To their everlasting credit, someone took a moment to share some of these oddities with the rest of us.  We thought the first one looked like Charles Laughton in "Mutiny on the Bounty."  Thanks again to Lawrence Moch, for the pics...

We're expecting a report tomorrow morning, but it will be occasional and abbreviated after that until the 6th of June.  We have been summoned to the old country to survey some surfing possibilities.  Portugal calls...  We'll be in the northern Porto region for a week and then
we'll be joining Tyrone James and Zoë in the southern Algarve for another.  Yes, we'll be hanging with Marco and the Portagee boys and they tell us there's some big food waiting and a definite maybe on the waves...  As if that isn't quite enough, on the way back we'll detour and land in Boise, Idaho for Allison Burke's great-grand-high-school-graduation.  Optimo!
