Westbound Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

This dear reader is an "oarfish."  A young woman was snorkeling in Catalina when she saw this specimen looking up at her from the bottom.  The advantages to seeing something like this when you're snorkeling are several:  no one can hear you scream, when you wet your pants it's too late - they're already wet and it looks bigger under water.  If you're brave you just might make sure it's not going to bite and drag it in.  This will stop all the loose talk on-shore at Luau Larry's.  This fellow measured out at 18 feet.  The longest?  A 56 foot long macker in Scotland...  Aye, Angus it was a bonnie boney fish...

Yet another summer day in a fall that refuses to play by the rules.  20+miles visibility and cloudless skies.  Winds were zephyr-like offshore and the sea surface was glassy.  The air temperature was 65.3˚ and so was the water.  High tide was at 8:07am +5.9' and low tide will be at 2:25pm +0.4'.  We have a SW swell out of 230˚ at 1.6' and it's not looking too deluxe at any of our favorite spots...
