A Happy New Year 2017 Sunday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Well despite everything to the contrary 2017 arrived on time, just as scheduled.

Photo #1 is some of the native flora in Boise covered with snow.  We have no idea what kind of berries these are, other than the fact that we know they're not cherries.  Interesting patterns and an example of chaos theory in all it's glory...

Surf today was floating on the high tide.  The wind stayed off all of the morning, so if you could wait until 11:00 you had a chance of catching some 2 to 3 footers.  A complete report will be out tomorrow with tides and all the relevant numbers...

#2 is a classic example of what passes for sunning in Idaho during the winter.  Now it's true that when the snow stops falling the sun can be bright and beautiful (see #4) but just as often it's cloudy and gloomy.  You can see how much snow fell the night before by checking out the hydrant.  This is a fail when it comes to tanning...

#3 is just about as far as the Professor got before one of his slaps froze to the pavement.  We didn't know that could happen.  Now we didn't try to lick any light poles or touch any frozen metal, but we thought dancing around in our slaps might be amusing.  Well, it was.  But it was mostly jumping on one foot dancing...

#4 is our take on the Abbey Road album cover...  (photo credit: Paul McCartney/Julia "Bama" Burke)

Happy birthday to Ivan Fernandez, probably the best counterman in the history of the profession.  Always quick with a smile and a bit of trivia for the curious and interested...

Finally a big "Thank You" to Mike "Hold Fast" Leko, who hosted our group for this year's New Year's Eve celebration at the Laurel Tavern.  Great drinks and food and precisely ONE television!  The sound system allowed for good conversation and you could still hear the tunes.  Obviously the company had something to do with it as well...

Happy 2017!
