Mach 3 Monday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We have no idea, why Austrian physicist Ernst Mach decided in 1937, that it would be a good idea to represent the ratio of the speed of a body, to the speed of sound.  But that being the case we decided that we should change the speedometer on the bus to reflect that more scientific measurement of speed.  So, on our own version of a test flight, we got "Scooter Boy" up to Mach .091.  This historic run was measured about mid-way down 190th St. hill with an offshore wind that most certainly will call the results into question...

Rain early on in the morning with the gray hanging on.  3 miles visibility.  Winds were offshore by 5.3kts and the sea surface is smooth, with it's own gray/green calmness.  The air temperature was 55.4 and the water is 58.5, but no one thinks it's that warm.  High tide is at 6:12am +6.4' and low tide will be at 1:23pm -0.9'.  Th full moon is Thursday, setting up a week of minus tides and we have a Friday the 13th.  Put all these things together at Mach 2.5 and they virtually happen simultaneously.  We have a west swell out of 260º at 3.9' and it's 3' to 4' and there are some good ones...  Tucker O'Shia shows us how to get to the pier the easy way...
