A Little More Off The Side Thursday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

We love technology!  Marco was getting his haircut and Raquel decided she'd InstaGram the event.  Little did she know that the Professor would be cruising the net and jump into the stream.  So here we have Marco plying his buddy and favorite barber (#1) with wine to lubricate the proceedings...  Results to come...

10 miles visibility and a few clouds bumping along the troposphere.  Winds were out of the SW by 4.9kts and they rapidly accelerated until we're actually seeing a few whitecaps.  The air temp at checkout was 62.3 and the water is a nice 68.5.  Low tide is at 8:57am +1.0' and high tide follows at 4:07pm +4.3'.  We're still waiting on that big south swell, but right now we have a 2.6' SSW swell out of 207º and it's still 1' and poor at most spots...

Look at this face!  Look at those pearly whites! (#2)  Yes, this is Chuck's grandson Anderson.  Anderson is now the Haifly holder of the record for being thrown out of school earliest!  The previous holder was Chuck at age 5 in kindergarten (for pulling up a girl's skirt.)  Anderson at 3 obliterated that mark and was ejected for biting a colleague who refused to share a piece of playground equipment...  Getting into an Ivy League school is quickly slipping out of his grasp...

A trip anywhere would be incomplete without LoLa taking us on a hike.  Oahu was no exception.  So most of us have seen Makaha from the west side, but this is the Makaha point from the Kaena Point side (#3).  You might ask why she picked this trek?  Good question!  We were in search of the often illusive young of Diomedeidae or more commonly known albatross.  As luck would have it we were lucky enough to find quite a number of these huge babies (#4), some just getting ready to fly.  Once they get aloft, they don't return until it's time to mate and have babies.  The most amazing thing about these chicks is that they are almost as big as the mature bird!  Mostly due to their fluffy plumage they are probably almost as tall, the only marked difference being their shorter wings...

Remember Happy Hour at Samba this Friday at 5:30.  If it's 5:30 and Friday and your not famous yet, you're in the wrong place...
