Tangram Tuesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So let's take a bird's-eye view of some of the reefs around Sunset Beach Hawaii.  In #1 Sensei Joey took this drone shot of a pod of spinner dolphins about 200 yards off of the beach.  The original video features them jumping and spinning and having a marvelous time...  #2 is a shot of Shark's Cove reef and outside of the rocks into the trench to the open water...  And you thought it looked cool from the beach!

Cloudless skies and 10 miles visibility through a slight haze.  Winds were light offshore by 1.5kts and the sea surface still has some bump from those persistent afternoon winds.  The air temperature was 68.3 and the water has some cool spots at 66.7 to 74.  High tide was at 9:09am+3.7' and it's low at 1:44pm +2.4'.  There's a nice swell out of 209º SSW at 5.2' and it was 3' to 5' and it managed to kick some ass and sprain Buck's elbow in the process...  Uncle Chris Miloe thought it was a bit irregular and wished we were all back in Hawaii...  No arguments!

#3 Liliopandacheeseburger, calling the rain down to the beach to feed the plants and make the children happy...

#4 Lady's and gentlemen, let us present the Duke and his boys...  From L to R: front - Manny LaGod, Joe Mundo, Don Ho, Rudy Aquino.  standing - Benny Chong, Duke Kahanamoku, Roger Carroll, Fred Hemmings and Al Akana.  Don Ho and the Ali's came to the mainland to present Roger Carroll an autographed surfboard for
his promotion of their first two albums and to record some further tracks for subsequent albums.  Duke and Fred Hemmings were there promoting Duke Kahanamoku Surfboards and Van's special Duke Sneakers (Manny is wearing a pair - we just happened to have a pair ourselves!)  On this same tour we saw Duke and Fred Hemmings at the Laguna Masters Surf Contest that was held at the Breakwall.  Corky Carroll was the winner and the first prize was a Honda motorcycle!  Obviously before the big bucks came to sports...  (photo courtesy Manny LaGod and Hawaiian Music and Musicians: An Encyclopedic History)

Waiting for the brain trust to tell us where we'll be doing happy hour...  It's only Tuesday and it's already been a thirsty week...
