Fire Wheels Wednesday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

So when you're in Town and you're surfing Flies, you're at Kaka'ako Park.  So you head up Cooke St. make a right on Waimanu St. and when you get to 909 you find yourself at a bit of old Honolulu.  It's the Brewseum, where they have an outrageous amount of WWII memorabilia, mainly focusing on Pearl Harbor and the Pacific Theater of war.  Our Host, Glen Tomlinson, dresses like General MacArthur and if he'd had a pair of aviators and a corn cob pipe he would have been spooky right-on.  You tour the downstairs where everything is annotated and captioned, then you head up the stairs to the speakeasy.  No joke - you need a password and special knock before they let you in the bar.  They serve their own craft beers and vintage WWII drinks.  On Wednesday nights they have a four part trivia contest and you compete with your team.  Lots of fun and a relatively inexpensive way to have fun and slake your thirst in the process.  When you finally leave you have to pinch yourself and realize that it's still not 1943...  (#1 l to r:  Uncle Chris, Gen. Glen Tomlinson, Barbina & LoLa)

Early morning fog / haze melting into a hot summer day.  No wind with the air at 66.7 and the water at 69.4.  High tide was at 9:43am +3.9' and low tide will be at 2:22pm +2.3'.  We have a SSW swell out of 205º at 3.9' and it was 3' to 4' and more fun than a barrel of Clarke's babies...

Three Mustache-teers...  Doc Scale, the Professor and TC hanging out at Laurel Tavern last Friday evening.  This weekend Happy Hour will be at Shade Hotel, Sea Level Bar.  Since happy hour there can be a bit quick, we'll be starting at 5pm so everyone can take advantage of the early bird specials...

#3 "Please welcome to the stage:  Kira Bones and the Hollow Legs!"  Kira opened for Kevin Sousa last Saturday at Terranea and she kicked some ass.  She'll be at Ste. Rocke on August 30th.  We'll let you know if there's something else before then...

#4 Our own Hawaiian Princess / Musical Director, Suzi, playing at the evening ukulele campfire...
