Did We Bond, Maybe Not Friday Surf & Culture Report

Lost Boys & Co...

Here (#1) we have a prehistoric stone monolith in southern Portugal.  It took two of us to get our arms half way around it and it was probably 15 feet tall.  We thought that it might be prehistoric man's idea of constructing a surfboard out of local materials, before he hit on wood as having significantly more float.  This was a real sinker and a struggle to get to the water...

This morning we were escorted to the beach by a phalanx of pony-tailed guards and horses (#2).  We expected the tails on the horses, not so much on the guards.  Initially we thought they were pulling us over for not having a left tail-light, but they let us go and rode north up Hermosa Blvd...  It was overcast, which the horses liked and the wind kept the flies down to a minimum.  The air was 63.3º and the water is 64.4º which is pretty damned disappointing for July.  Low tide was really low -1.5' at 5:36am and high tide is at 12:08pm +4.3'.  We have a building SSW swell out of 207º at 3.3' and it might be a shade bigger mañana...

Nope, no idea how they got this crab into the bottle (#3).  We went through all the possibilities:  1. They grew it inside.  2. They put it in vinegar, made the shell soft and squeezed it into the bottle.  3. They cut the top off the bottle, slid in the crab and glued the bottle back together.  4. They made the crab drink this agua ardent and it liked it so much it crawled in and drank itself until it was pickled.  5. This is not a bottle, nor is it a crab, but a simulacrum designed to mimic the two objects...  Kinda reached on the last one...

And it's a Happy Birthday to Emilee Hall, the "Emi-leaper."  21 today and planning on a hangover in the morning.  Well, probably not, but it's a possibility...
